Slum: The People of Kibera is a collection of narrative biographies about 20 individuals and families that live in one of Africa's largest and worst slums. Written by a tenant in Kibera, Genesis Njeru, and his wife, Slum penetrates behind the "statistics" of poverty and provides thoughtful insight into the daily activities, struggles, and dreams of people who attempt to build life in adversity.

For the first phase of this project, we are using an independent printer and distributing the book via this website. PayPal is the leading worldwide e-commerce provider and provides a secure means of purchasing this book using your PayPal account or credit card (we never see any of your purchasing information).
In the future, we hope to secure broader distribution (through other online retailers or brick-and-mortar bookstores) once we identify a commercial publisher. If you or your firm might be interested in publishing Slum: The People of Kibera, please contact us.
All net profits from the sale of this book will go directly to benefit Kibera. Initially, as we launch the book, the funds will be used to help Genesis and Faith (a) support the Mission Outreach Church they are a part of, (b) pay for medical bills related to the upcoming birth of their child, (c) start a business in Kibera once the child is born, and (d) assist with the physical and mercy needs of people around them, including the people featured in the book. Long-term, we hope to identify a more formal means of using funds generated by the book, such as a partnership with an existing group or developing our own non-profit in Kibera. We will see how the Lord provides!
We estimate that approximately 20-35% of the total consumer cost of the book will be able to benefit Kibera in some way. Additionally, in the future we hope to develop the ability to distribute an e-book version that will reduce our cost of printing and distribution.
If you have any questions regarding the use of the proceeds of this book, please do not hesitate to inquire directly.
